Essential Oil Favourites For The Holidays

Christmas is awesome! It’s one of my favourite holidays because it’s a time to slow down, spend time with family, enjoy fun traditions and make beautiful memories with my kids. I love the aromas of Christmas cookies, pine trees and the spices used when cooking Christmas dinner. But I don’t always have time to whip together a batch of cookies to fill my home with the smells of the holidays (like who does?), so I turn to my essential oils to keep the festive aromas going throughout the holidays. Plus these amazing oils don’t just smell amazing, they have other benefits as well.

Siberian Pine – In addition to making your home smell like a Christmas tree, this oil is also fantastic for sinus health. So if your family is prone to the sniffles around this time of year, this is a great oil to diffuse and it’s safe to use around small children.

Cinnamon Bark – The spicy fragrance of cinnamon is warming, comforting and strengthening and there is probably no better oil for triggering sensory memory. When you diffuse cinnamon around your home, you are immediately reminded of all of the warmth of this amazing season.

Clove Bud – Whether added to mulled wine or used to make pomanders (picture an orange, studded with cloves), clove bud essential oil is a classic holiday spice. Its rich scent adds a beautiful depth to the smells of your holiday home and it’s great to diffuse for cold and flu prevention. Combine with orange essential oil for an instant (mess free) pomander.

Orange – Traditionally people use to gift one another these delicious tropical fruits as a Christmas gift. Today, paired with the rich scent of clove or cinnamon, this oil makes a wonderful scent for your home over the holidays.

Peppermint – candy canes anyone? Peppermint essential oil will fill your home with a lovely, fresh holiday scent while also helping to boost your energy. Plus it’s a great oil to help relieve headaches in case the stress of the silly season gives your head a pounding.

Frankincense – Gifted by the three wise men to baby Jesus and then burnt as incense in places of worship, this oil has a long history with Christmas. It’s also an emotionally grounding oil to help one live in the moment.  Many people diffuse frankincense during meditation to calm and centre the mind while reducing levels of stress.

Myrrh – Another essential oil that was gifted by the three wise men and burnt in houses of worship. Like frankincense, this oil helps to relieve anxiety and when paired together they make a wonderful combination for the holiday season.

Spirit of Christmas Blend – If you’re looking for Christmas in a bottle, you’ve found it! No matter where you are in the world you can diffuse this blend and instantly be transported to a white Christmas filled with spices and mulled wine. It’s a beautiful combination of cinnamon bark, clove bud and citrus.
