This family run business is highly regulated by the Western Australian Forestry and they have certain areas that they may collect the pods from. These areas are constantly changing to ensure no one area is ever depleted. They pay a royalty to the Western Australian Forestry per seed pod, which goes to aid in regeneration work. They are extremely respectful of their bushland and take only what they can use. The seed pods they collect have expelled their seeds and have completed the lifecycle of the plant.
These artisans go in on foot so they don’t disturb any other plants or wildlife and no noisy machinery is used in this process. They also support other Western Australian harvesters in their endeavour to regenerate other sites by harvesting some of the seeds from the pods. They strongly believe it is their responsibility to ensure that the landscape is undisturbed and that the Banksia trees continue to thrive in the Australian Bush.
