Sunburn is no freaking joke! Your best course of action is definitely prevention; loading up on sunscreen and reapplying every 2 hours. But sadly it’s still pretty common for a sunburn to sneak up on us. Chances are that you will end up looking like a lobster at some point during the summer months, so here is a great all-natural recipe that you can use to sooth sunburn with essential oils and aloe vera. Bonus – this recipe is safe to use on the whole family.
Sunburn Soother Gel
1 oz aloe vera gel
10 drops Lavender essential oil
Add the three ingredients to a 1oz (30ml) bottle and shake. That’s it! Store your Sunburn Soother Gel in the refrigerator so it’s nice and cool when you apply it. Use it as often as you like and you can continue to use it after your burn has healed to help restore your skin. If you don’t have access to aloe vera gel, you can use fresh aloe vera from your garden. Just cut open the leaves and scoop out the clear portion of the plant. Add this to your blender and you will have beautiful, pure aloe vera. But be warned that it will probably be more liquid than the gel bought in shops, so you may want to add this mixture to a spray bottle for easier application.
Lavender is a beautiful essential oil to use for calming sunburns. It reduces inflammation and supports the skin’s natural process of healing. But if you’d rather try a different essential oil, here are a few options to substitute for the lavender:
5 drops Geranium
5 drops Palmarosa
10 drops Cedarwood
10 drops Frankincense
So get outside and enjoy the sunny weather with your family, but make sure you pack a bottle of our Sunburn Soother Gel just in case a nasty sunburn sneaks up on you 😉
